LONG LIVE SOLIDARITY WITH THE STRIKE OF PANASQUEIRA MINERS. AGAINST ALMONTY SCORCHED EARTH POLICY

Resolution UMLP União Marxista-Leninista Portuguesa (Portuguese Marxist-Leninist Union), Portugal, May 10th, 2021

We, Portuguese Marxist-Leninist Union UMLP, express our full support and solidarity to the panasqueira miners strike and all their just demands, against the inhuman and degrading conditions of over-exploitation that that they have to endure inside the mine and also the demand for the much needed wage increase.

To our brothers miners of Panasqueira, we say, you will never be alone, because all of us, class brothers exploited by capital, are aware of what it is like to work underground, apart from the serious health risks, diseases which mark the rest of miners' lives and the human pain of the thousands of our brothers who died and continue to die buried inside the mines.

We are proletarians and for all these reasons our organisation praises the great example of mobilizations, unity and combativeness which mark the worldwide mining movement history. We remember the memorable example march on Madrid by ou brothers Spanish miners in July 2012, a mobilization that had repercussions at worldwide solidarity level and ended up uniting all workers and masses against the reactionary capitalist government policies.

The militant miners' movement belongs to the backbone of international proletariat struggles.

All over the world we see the continued suffering of some 22 million miners, in the arms of capitalist mining multinationals, who are affected by the exploitation and oppression done hand in hand with reactionary governments. Together they deepen the miners exploitation with a total absence of safety and hygiene conditions and low wages, in order to increase their profit margins.

This year alone, in February, brothers from eight coal mines in Bosnia went on strike against lay-offs, as done in Belarus where miners are also in the front line against the Lukashenko government, with 80 picketers arrested. In Romania, 80 miners stayed inside the mine, for 48 hours to protest against the lack of wages. In Colombia, 450 miners from the largest coal mine stopped their work in protest against forced early retirement.

For the unity of miners' struggle all over the world!

For all this, we know that it is not enough for us to make demands alone and in isolation in our country. The 1st International Miners Conference, in 2013, stated: "Today it is increasingly less and less possible to assert oneself against international mining monopolies, isolated from each other and locally restricted. What we need is the unity of workers across the whole world!"

United in practical solidarity against the capital policies. Forward with international solidarity. Let us prepare the 3rd World Miners' Conference because only with coordination and organized cooperation of struggles, we will make them more powerful.

Long live the Panasqueira miners struggle!

Long live Solidarity with Panasqueira Miners strike!

Long live working class Solidarity and the International Mining Movement!
