No further aggressions against the Venezuelan people, end of the criminal blockade by US imperialism against Venezuela

ICOR, Resolution, 04/18/2020

US imperialism has exhausted all forms of aggression -so far with the exception of a direct invasion - against the Venezuelan people to overthrow the legitimately elected government headed by Nicolás Maduro.

Imperialism does not allow a nation to act with its own head, with sovereignty and to get rid of the paternalism to which it has been subjected for almost 200 years.

The imperialists have attacked the currency, controlled the mechanisms of domestic trade, created scarcity, blocked the money that the nation has in the banks around the world as well as the access to vital products such as food and medicines. All these measures are aimed at provoking an outburst of the people against the government as a result of growing discontent.

Likewise, imperialism has carried out coups d'état, promoted parallel governments, organised terrorist actions, attacked power generation and public mass transport, robbed national public enterprises abroad and controlled their resources.

All these measures ultimately came to nothing, although they have left their terrible consequences on the national infrastructure. The Venezuelan people have maintained a strong resistance linked to a process of national liberation that began more than 20 years ago.

Thus, in the midst of a crisis that is not only due to external threats and actions, but also to the government's own mistakes in leadership, where the health system has been significantly affected, and where despite the fact that real wages and therefore quality of life have been deteriorating, the people have been willing to defend their conquests.

Recently, a new aggression has been added to this already long list, in which the United States Attorney General has suspended bounties on the heads of the constitutional President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and of key officials in the country, such as the President of the National Constituent Assembly, the Secretary of Defence and the President of the Supreme Court.

This measure is part of a new tactic already used in the Republic of Panama to accuse the president of a common crime, such as drug trafficking, and then attack the country with commandos and kidnap him.

This plan was discovered by the Venezuelan government when paramilitary units were training and procuring weapons in Colombia and waiting for the moment when the US government offered the reward, so that the kidnapping action would be carried out and from there demoralize the Venezuelan people.

Then the President of the United States is directing a fleet of navy and aircraft to the Caribbean under the pretext of the fight against drug trafficking. It is common knowledge that most drugs in the region leave Colombia via the Pacific. Consequently, it is clear that the mapped out military action is in reality a blockade which may be the prelude to military intervention in Venezuela or may lead to a new coup d'état. It is the largest US military operation in the region in 30 years. Competent observers are drawing connections to the US invasion of Panama in 1989, and it is clear that Trump's domestic political intention is to divert attention from the tens of thousands of deaths he is responsible for by his ignorant trivialisation of the Corona pandemic.

This new aggression against Venezuela and its people is taking place at a time when the population is in quarantine, as a result of the advisable policy of the government to take immediate measures to protect the health of the Venezuelan population and to fight the corona virus pandemic. Today Venezuela is showing very moderate growth in the transmission of the pandemic, unfortunately in the midst of a ruthless blockade.

We, the parties and movements organized in the ICOR stand in solidarity with the Venezuelan people, with their admirable resistance, with their ability to fight and organize. We call upon the democratic peoples all over the world: do not let the drastic effects, the media focus on the Corona pandemic and also the beginning massive effects of the world economic and financial crisis on your lives prevent you from developing the urgently needed solidarity with Venezuela.

And we also point the necessary perspective of this struggle to fight for socialist conditions.

In the midst of the pandemic that is shaking the whole of humanity today, we call on you to express our solidarity with Venezuela: let us realize a World Day of Communication on 2 May, 2020 via social networks with messages of solidarity to the Venezuelan people! Let us use the following slogans and labels for social networks:

Stop the blockade against Venezuela!

The imperialist aggressions against Venezuela will not be stopped unless we fight! No pasarán!

We, the people of the world are united againt imperialism!

For democracy and freedom – socialism!
