Comrades of the RMP/Russia report about the worldwide climate strike on 20 September 2019:
A movement FridaysForFuture of liberal intellectuals exists in Russia (as it seems mainly students). It is active in Moscow, St. Petersburg and in about eight further cities (not in Tver). The total number of supporters is about eighty. The movement is nearly unknown among the Russian leftists (and among the masses), though it was created in Yakutsk by Trotskyites, the current representing the International Socialist Left and the Revolutionary Socialist League in Germany. In Kirov some young people of the CPRF are taking part in the movement.
Campaigns with thousands of participants are getting much more public attention like the present rallies in Arkhangelsk and Severodvinsk against the construction of a landfill site to which the waste from Moscow shall be transported.
The second focus of public attention are the recent municipal elections in Moscow. Many people are appalled about the arbitrary limitations for the participation of oppositional liberals and also some left candidates. And about the brutal retaliatory measures by the police and the court in response to the protests by the authorities. The most serious case is a prison sentence against an coincidental passer-by who was hit by a policeman with a stick and was hurt at his shoulder.
The third important event is the strike of the crane workers in Kazan.
