ICOR Organizations in solidarity with Alik Chakraborty
1. Urgent call by CPI(ML) Red Star, India
Com. Alik Chakraborty, politburo member of the CPI (ML) Red Star, was arrested by the police of the State of West Bengal on Thursday. Com. Alik Chakraborty and his wife Com. Sharmishtha Choudhury have been leading the Bhangar movement against the 400 KV power grid lines just outside Kolkata. Com. Alik Chakraborty has been in the area of the movement and played a major role in leading the movement till now. He is the spokesperson of the “Jomi Jibika Bastutantra evam Poribesh Bachav Samiti” (Committee for Protection of Land, Livelihood, Ecology and Environment). In the recently held local body elections, this committee had wanted to contest 17 seats. However, aspiring candidates were threatened and even attacked with guns and bombs by the henchmen of the ruling party. Due to this the Committee approached the Bengal High Court and the court allowed them to file nominations by “Whatsapp”. Finally, the committee could file nominations in 8 seats. Out of these, in 3 seats, there was rampant booth capturing where the thugs of the ruling party filled the boxes with false votes. In the other 5 seats, the Committees candidates won with 90% of the votes polled.
In this situation, Com. Alik had gone to the nearby city of Bhubaneshwar in the neighbouring state of Odisha to get specialised medical help. On Thursday, 31st May 2018 he was arrested as he was in the queue outside the Kalinga Hospital in Bhubaneshwar. He was produced before a magistrate the next day who did not heed the committee’s advocate’s plea that he needed urgent hospitalisation and should not be moved back to Kolkata. On 1st June the police flew him back to Kolkata and he will be produced before the Bengal courts for further remand. We are informed that 70 cases (all clearly concocted), have been foisted upon him.
A movement has already developed all over the country for the immediate and unconditional release of Com. Alik. The people of Bhangor already took out a massive rally yesterday with women and children and blocked the roads. A massive rally is planned for Kolkata on 4th June to call for his immediate and unconditional release which will be attended by all left and democratic parties’ representatives. We call upon all democratic and progressive forces all over the world to support this demand. Dear comrades,
on Thursday, 31. May Com. Alik Chakraborty, politburo member of the CPI (ML) Red Star, was arrested by the police of the State of West Bengal . He and his wife Com. Sharmishtha Choudhury have been leading the Bhangor movement against the 400 KV power grid lines just outside Kolkata and were leading activists in the Committee for Protection of Land, Livelihood, Ecology and Environment. In June 2017 ICOR published a resolution on the Banghor movement (see www.icor.info/2017/resolution-on-the-bhangor-movement).
Alik needs medical help urgently, that is being denied to him.
Alik and Sharmista are courageous and experienced fighters, activists and mass leaders. We demand immediate and unconditional release of Com. Alik.
The democratic and revolutionary organizations of the world need fighters, activists and communists in freedom!
Thus, I call every ICOR organization to organize solidarity according to their possibilities.

FREE COMRADE ALIK CHAKRABORTY OF THE CPI (ML) RED
STAR
The Social Democratic Party of Kenya (SDP) has received the worrying news
that Comrade Alik Chakraborty, who is a member of the Politburo of the CPI
(ML) Red Star, and a leader of the Committee for Protection of Land,
Livelihood, Ecology and Environment has been charged in a Court in West
Bengal after being picked by Police from inside a hospital, sick and in need of
medical attention.
The SDP strongly condemns such inhuman and dastardly act from the Indian
State apparatus. We demand for the immediate release of comrade Chakraborty,
and we also demand that he be allowed treatment at a facility of his choice.
We also remind the authorities in India that the struggles for people’s right to
own land and live in a clean environment is just and unstoppable and they
should therefore cease their harassment of the masses and the leaders of the
movement for Protection of Land, Livelihood, Ecology and Environment, and
instead listen to the voices of the people.

Que día martes, 31 de mayo del corriente, ha sido arrestado el camarada Alik Chakraborty, miembro del Buró Político del Partido Comunista de la India (Marxita-Leninista) – Bandera Roja, por la policía del Estado de Bengala Oeste. Motivo de tan drástica acción represiva lo ha venido a ser su actividad dirignte en el Comité para la Protección de la tierra, la Vida Silvestre, Ecología y Medio Ambiente y en ello por su participación en las luchas del Movimiento contra la línea eléctrica de 400 Watts de Banghor de la cual es orientador. Actividades reivindicativas y políticas a todas luces legales en dicho paìs.
Venimos a,
Condenar y repudiar este acto represivo policial cometido contra nuestro camarada Alik Chakraborty, violatorio de las libertades políticas vigentes en el país;
Exigimos de las Altas autoridades del Estado de Bengala Oeste la libertad incondicional e inmediata de nuestro camarada lik Chakraborty, así como el cese de todas medidas persecutorias policiacas en el Estado en su confronto;
Solidaridad plena al fraternal PCI (ML) – Bandera Roja en éste trance tan preñado de peligros para la democracia del país por la que esta pasado, y que pone en entredicho la libre actividad del mismo;

Release Comrade Alik Chakraborty immediately
The New Democratic Marxist Leninist Party of Sri Lanka strongly denounces the arrest of Comrade Alik Chakraborty, politburo member of the CPI (ML) Red Star, by the police of the State of West Bengal .
The Party is of the view that the arrest is politically motivated as he and his wife Comrade Sharmishtha Choudhury have played a leading role in the Bhangor movement against the 400 KV power grid lines just outside Kolkata and have been courageous activists in the Committee for Protection of Land, Livelihood, Ecology and Environment.
The Party joins democratic and revolutionary organizations across the world to demand the immediate and unconditional release of Comrade Chakraborty and expresses solidarity with the campaign in India for his release.

taken against him by the state of West Bengal. lt is a bad attitude and inhumane to deny comrade Alik
Chkraborty access to medication.
To protect the ecology and environment is not a crime. The members of the CPSA(M-L) call upon the
