Anti War Day rally in Nuremberg / Germany protest against the arrests of the workers Mi Jiuping and Liu Penghua and 28 other activists

Anti War Day rally in Nuremberg, 1 September 2018

Dear colleagues from Shenzen,

We automotive workers and supporters of the 2nd International Automotive Workers’ Conference (IAC) made your struggle for building a union known at the rally on the occasion of Anti-War Day in Nuremberg.

Imperialism is in a crisis, this leads to a situation in which a general tendency toward the preparation of war is developing worldwide. This preparation of war is, however, not only directed against other countries, but also within the country against the own population and the workers.

Here in Germany, in the federal state Bavaria, e.g. they passed a new law for the police tasks, which can be used in the future against strikes, demonstrations and protest movements and with which our leaders can be arrested as a “threatening” danger. We oppose this, and we are preparing a big demonstration on 3 October in Munich.

But we also have to oppose a second generation of a wave of severance pay offers, up to possible dismissals, plant shutdowns and cuts of our benefits, which are threatening at the moment due to the trade war. We also have to unite against this, therefore we need militant unions.

The city of Nuremberg is the city of human rights – it is the partner city of Shenzhen, this is why we request the city to protest against the oppression of your struggle for unions.

We resolved unanimously the following text on our rally:

We, the about 60 participants of the rally, protest against the arrests of the workers Mi Jiuping and Liu Penghua and 28 other activists.

We demand their immediate release.

For free union activity from Shenzhen to Nuremberg.

With greetings of solidarity,

from the Anti War Day rally in Nuremberg
