Long live the struggle of the people's masses in the Rif region in Morocco

ICOR-Resolution, 25th July 2017

Since 28 October 2016 the Rif region in the North of Morocco lives in a fierce class struggle between the masses on the one hand and the repressive organs of the ruling bourgeois coalition around the monarch on the other. The people in the Rif region have been pushed to the margins of society and have to live in a militarized zone since 1958. The anger of the people's masses there was triggered by a young fish vendor being crushed in a garbage truck on the order of the local authorities, after he wanted to save his goods from being destroyed by exactly the same authorities.

The protests of the masses in the Rif were peacefully organized against the politics of oppression, impoverishment, austerity measures and privatization of the public sector which are imposed upon them by the capitalist institutions of the world, the World Bank and the IMF; this led to very high unemployment and great poverty, especially among young graduates, as well as to the decline of the education systems, the health-care system and to the dissolution of the social infrastructures of the majority of the working classes.

These politics are extremely profitable for a minority of bourgeois business people, among them the incumbent monarch, one of the richest men of the world. In return the regime uses harsher and harsher repression. The political regime in Morocco discredits the activists and accuses them of separatism. With this it aims at isolating them from the Moroccan masses and from those oppressed. But in spite of the brutal repression of the peaceful demonstrators and the arrest of meanwhile about 200 activists the Moroccan regime has not succeeded in suffocating the rebellion of the protests which are growing day by day.

The social movement in Morocco is part of the revolts and rebellions of the people's masses in the Maghreb and the Middle East since 2011. The people's masses want freedom, democracy, decency, equality and social justice. They are rising again and coming to terms with the maneuvers of the rulers to subordinate the movement for freedom and democracy to a deceitful bourgeois democracy of a western type or to misuse it by means of fascist and terrorist forms of rule under the guise of religion.

These heroic struggles of the masses in Morocco are not isolated from the class struggles in the whole region and in the world, they are very closely linked with each other. The decisive lesson that we can draw from the past years is the obligation to unite the struggles of all sectors of the working class and the oppressed masses and to fight with determination against reactionary forces being able to win harmful influence. With patient persuasive work we have to provide the masses with the revolutionary way out with the overthrow of imperialism and construction of socialist societal relationships in the struggle for freedom and democracy. Let us increase our efforts for the revolutionary building of the party and the ICOR in these mass disputes!

The ICOR – International Coordination of Revolutionary Parties and Organizations – acts in solidarity with the struggles of the working class and the masses in the Rif region and the other regions in Morocco. We declare our full support for the revolutionary comrades engaged in these struggles. We demand the immediate and unconditional release of the arbitrarily arrested activists.

Long live working-class solidarity, long live the unity of the working classes, the peasants, the women, the young activists and the impoverished masses!

Long live the struggles and rebellion of the people's masses in Morocco!

Workers of all countries, unite!

Workers of all countries and oppressed peoples, unite!
