Hands off Jerusalem! Solidarity with the Palestinian liberation struggle

1.) On 6 December 2017 US President Trump declared that the USA will recognize Jerusalem as capital of Israel and move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem by summer 2018. It is characteristic of the ultra-reactionary role played by Trump that this step openly even violates UN Resolution 478 of 30 June 1980, which condemned the annexation of East Jerusalem by the Zionist regime. All countries withdrew their embassies from Jerusalem at that time.

With this decision Trump openly sides with the Zionist regime. It is a reactionary provocation against the Palestinian liberation struggle and the worldwide solidarity with this struggle.

This underscores the importance of the Closing Resolution of the 3rd ICOR World Conference:

“The 3rd ICOR World Conference expresses its solidarity with and support of the struggles of the Palestinian people and its revolutionary forces. It denounces Zionism as the spearhead of US imperialism in the Middle Eastern region and the Zionist crimes against the Palestinian people.”

2.) The ICOR condemns the imperialist countries that support Israel and discriminate against and suppress criticisms and protests in their countries against the policies of the Zionist government as anti-Semitic. Anti-Semitism, just like Zionism, is a racist ideology that aims at setting the peoples of the Middle East and especially the working people of Israel and Palestine against each other.

3.) It is demagogy when various reactionary Arab regimes and the fascist Turkish Erdogan regime, which oppresses the Kurdish people and any democratic opposition in its own country, now protest Trump’s decision in order to realize their own power interests at the expense of the Palestinian people.

4.) Trump’s decision is directed straight against a just solution of the Palestine conflict. It is hypocritical when he says in connection with his decision that US imperialism still is open for a two-state solution. The present decision for Jerusalem as capital of Israel in fact cements the Zionist regime’s policy of oppression and occupation.

A just solution of the Palestine question is only possible in the long run in a unified, democratic and free Palestine with Jerusalem as capital. Also in ICOR there are different opinions about the option of a (temporary) “two-state-solution”.

5.) The Israeli governments pursue an aggressive proto-fascist policy towards the Palestinian people. Exactly 30 years ago the first Intifada of the Palestinian people began. Despite brutal attacks by terror commandos, military campaigns and wars, Israel has not succeeded in breaking and defeating the Palestinian resistance. For the development in the Middle East, the Palestinian liberation struggle and its appeal are an important factor in the struggle against the imperialist order and a focal point of the international class struggle and the inter-imperialist contradictions.

Long live proletarian internationalism!
