Freedom and restitution of citizenship to Kumar Gunaratnam

Kumar Gunaratnam is a member of the political bureau of the party “Frontline Socialist Party“ in Sri Lanka. He had to go to Australia into exile and received an Australian passport there. Due to the promise of the current government that all political activists living in exile may return to Sri Lanka, he travelled to Sri Lanka in 2015. Since November 2015 he is in deportation detention because his tourist visa expired and he supposedly is an Australian citizen. In March 2016 he was convicted to one year of prison because of that. This is a cheap trick of the government of Sri Lanka to get rid of unwanted political activists in spite of the return promise. We demand:

Immediate release of Kumar Gunaratnam from prison

His recognition as a citizen of Sri Lanka

His unrestricted right to political activity in Sri Lanka

Freedom for all political prisoners in Sri Lanka
