The refugee crisis and those responsible for it

ICOR Europe, May 2016

The European Union is experiencing the biggest economic, financial and social crisis in its history. The refugee crisis has shown that the existing contradictions within the EU are increasing. The refugee crisis has also shown that Germany cannot solve this crisis on its own in spite of its leading role in the EU. The German chancellor made repeated visits to Recep Tayyip Erdogan within a short period of time. Every visit of Angela Merkel has strengthened the fascist AKP government, Erdogan and the fascist dictatorship as a whole and has served to support the massacres in North Kurdistan. Merkel sees Turkey playing the key role in the refugee crisis. She tried to solve this crisis by means of Turkey in order to avoid the intensification of contradictions within the EU caused by this crisis and to save the EU.

Since 2012 the stream of refugees has seen exceptional growth. In particular the refugee drama in the Aegis-Turkey and Balkans-Greece encouraged the countries in which it was taking place to exploit these problems in domestic and foreign policy. The bourgeois media generally declare on the one hand, that people flee from wars and poverty. On the other hand, the wars and the reasons for poverty are very carefully concealed. The drama of millions of people fleeing from wars and poverty is being unscrupulously misused in domestic and foreign policy, economy and socially.

The community of Western values“ cannot talk its way out of its responsibility for this drama so easily. If the flight of the migrants to the borders of the EU is a struggle, this struggle is not without success in spite of thousands of casualties. Those who arrive are the “vanguard of the migrant stream“. For as long as the wars which trigger the migrant streams don't stop, ever more migrants will pass the frontiers of the EU, hundreds of thousands or even millions will follow the ten thousands today. The representatives of the Western values should not doubt that. They reap what they sowed. In Afghanistan, the Middle East (Iraq, Syria), Libya and Africa they wage direct and indirect wars, they divide countries, exchange regimes and wage wars of occupation for exploitation. The people who are losing their homes through these wars, losing their jobs and having no perspective for the future all come back to them as refugees.

The hypocritical role of the EU with regard to the refugee problem, its attempt to misuse the migrants for its geopolitical objectives and its machinations under the guise of democracy must be exposed. The refugees serve the bourgeoisie as a means to an end in economy and politics and are being used for their own class interests. Important tasks await the communist and revolutionary forces in every country in face of this.

The problem does not lie alone in showing solidarity with the refugees/migrants. We say yes to solidarity, but solidarity with the migrants who have already arrived in the fortress Europe means nothing else than just saying “Hello, welcome“. It should not be forgotten that the largest part of the refugees are working people and workers. They represent a new part of the working class and the workers within the society in which they have started to live. Revolutionaries and communists must act on the basis of this reality. If this is not done, the working class will be divided in the respective countries according to ethnic origin. If it is not understood that a large part of the refugees are a part of the working class, it cannot be understood that the bourgeoisie is pitting the domestic and emigrated parts of the working class against each other and using them for their own interests.

In times in which the internationalization of the capital and production has reached a significant extent, you cannot imagine a weak socialization of the world in view of imperialist globalization. You must not overlook that flight and migration are a necessity within an exploitative system. That is why migration and flight will remain on the agenda as long as exploitation, discrimination and oppression and the capitalist system exist. The problem will be solved and overcome when people can live together peacefully, are not divided according to their ethnic and religious origin, when this global capitalist system is destroyed and a socialist world will be created.

For the exposure of the imperialist refugee policy!

Denounce the massacres and oppression by the fascist dictatorship in Turkey!

Practical solidarity in the refugee question!
