Resolution of the 4th International exchange of experiences of dockworkers in Rotterdam
The participants of the 4th International exchange of experiences of dockworkers on September 1 and 2, 2012 in Rotterdam are proud that dockworkers play an important role in the struggles against the rolling off of the troubles of the crisis. With the struggle against Portpackage II, in 2006, they have proven Europe wide that against splitting of companies and ports they were able to build a united front of struggle and were the first to throw away an EU law.
Right now, during the global economic and financial crisis we face new challenges which attack hardest our life and labour conditions and the future of our youth. Therefore it is important that dockworkers take their responsability for the future and the perspective of the youth. That starts with conducting the fight for stable jobs, minimum wages that allow of a decent living by same minimum wages for comparable jobs for all dockworkers in Europe in an offensive way.
Therefore we have to overthrow the EU plans of Port Package III already in the beginning and to organise our full solidarity with the struggle of the collegues against their first implementation in Greece and Portugal. Port Package III is a dictation aimed at pushing dockworkers along a wide front into agency jobs and time contractwork. The consequence is not only squeezing the wages, but also the splitting and furthering of the competition among dockworkers.
We support th proposition of the IDC (International Dockworkers Council) for the preparation of a 24 hours strike in all European ports against Port Package III with all means at our disposal. For that reason we turn to our colleagues and promote their independent initiatives of militant internationalist union efforts. We work on it that, in support of and mobilisation for this strike, big demonstrations in order to mobilise a wide front of direct dockworkers and their families in the port cities are being organised.
