Lessons from Hiroshima and Nagasaki

(Proposal for a declaration on 6th August), by secretariat of the ICOR ICC, 30 July 2012

To the members of ICOR

Proposal for a declaration on 6th August

Dear comrades,

The secretariat has developed the following proposal, which can be used in agitation and propaganda concerning 6th August (Hiroshima-Day):

Lessons from Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Once again 6th August looms close and the world is forced to remember the horrors of the nuclear holocaust in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Today there is a vast movement all over the world against the irresponsible use of nuclear energy. Just recently ICOR and ILPS have undertaken to collect millions of signatures from all over the world against nuclear power and against nuclear arms. This day will serve, without doubt, to spur this campaign on to greater efforts.

At the same time, 6th August also brings home the horrors of war. Lenin had shown that imperialism means war. After the 2nd World War, the new systems adopted by imperialism have resulted in postponing the dangers of a World War. At the same time numerous proxy wars and wars with smaller extend have emerged. They are also waged for enforcing profit and power interests.

There is a just fear of an escalation of such wars, with attacks likely on targets like Syria, Iran and North Korea. While the main tendency in the world is the struggle for genuine freedom and democracy, the continuing and intensifying world economic and financial crisis aggravates the general danger of war. As communists we stand clearly against imperialist hegemony and war.

The task of ICOR and its constituents is to unite with the thousands of forces all over the world who are against war. We have to bring to the notice of the people of the world that imperialism leads to war. For many people, their great concerns are still connected with pacifist illusions. This often holds them back from fighting against imperialism.

Let us create unity with all forces who are opposed to nuclear power, nuclear arms and to war and direct our wrath towards the imperialist system. These are the lessons from Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

In solidarity

Stefan Engel
