16 Days Campaign on “Activism Against Gender Violence” from November 25 to December 10, 2011

From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World

 

Violence against women is a persistent and universal problem occurring in every culture and social group. Around the world, at least one in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime – most often by someone she knows, including a member of her own family, an employer or a co-worker. Violence against women has been called “the most pervasive yet least recognized human rights abuse in the world.” Accordingly, the Second World Conference on Human Rights in Vienna in 1993 and the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1994 gave priority to the issue of gender Base Violence.

 The 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence, from Nov. 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) through Dec. 10 (International Human Rights Day), is a world wide campaign that provides an opportunity to take a stand against gender-based violence and to mobilize around women’s human rights. This year theme is “ from Peace in the home to Peace in the World: Lets challenge militarism and End Violence Against Women”. The campaign honors women human rights defenders who have faced intimidation and violence for their activism.

The main purpose of the campaign is to aware and educate people, trade unions, professional organizations, youth, Journalists, lawyers to understand that how this curse badly effecting women life and pushing back in stone age.

During campaign APTUF/WWO draw public attention to the sensitivity of the issue and motivate people to raise their voice against this crime.

WWO/APTUF every year’s activities revolve around its basic themes but put in more emphasis and highlight the sensitivity of the issue of Violence Against Women and organize series of activities to motivate peoples to raise their voice against this crime. Instead of all these activities APTUF going to organize “ Sixteen Days Campaign Against Gender Violence”, from 25th November to December 10th 2011. Following the program of activities:

 

  • Publish posters, leaflets and stickers inscribed violence against women

  • Send articles to different newspapers on gender based violence.

  • Gate meetings in different industrial units in Lahore, Sheikhupura.

  • Letters send to government authorities to immediately make efforts to end gender base violence

  • Skits and drama organize in communities where women workers are living

  • Protest on 10 December Human Right Day
